National Consortium of Academic Nurse Educators, Inc. (NC-ANE) and the Daisy Foundation Collaboration

On June 24, 2024, the National Consortium of Academic Nurse Educators, Inc. (NC-ANE) announced that NC-ANE and the Daisy Foundation (DF) agreed to a new collaboration with NC-ANE (https://www.nc-ane.org) to be a DAISY Community of Supportive Associations. The DAISY Foundation is the leading international organization for nursing recognition (https://www.daisyfoundation.org/).

The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died from complications of the autoimmune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP) at the age of 33. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.

What is the DAISY Award?

The DAISY Award® is a special honor given to extraordinary nurses for the compassionate contributions they make every day going above and beyond expectations in science and sensitivity.

What does it mean to receive a DAISY Award?

The DAISY Foundation collaborates with numerous national and international nursing and healthcare organizations whose missions align with theirs. These organizations value and endorse DAISY’s dedication to recognizing compassion in care delivery. The NC-ANE envisions to achieve the following goals via this collaboration:

Supporting Academic Nurse Educators

The DAISY Foundation shares a vision that aligns with advocating for academic nurse educators. Their commitment to recognizing compassion in care delivery extends to educators who play a crucial role in shaping future nurses. By fostering collaboration, research, and partnerships, The DAISY Foundation supports the growth and competence of nurse educators, ultimately benefiting patient care and nursing practice.

Nominate and Honor NC-ANE Members for Various DAISY Awards

All NC-ANE members are eligible for DAISY award nominations. The DAISY Foundation (DF) honors nurses through various recognition awards which celebrate nurses’ exceptional compassion, dedication, and impact on patient care.

Enhance the Mission and Vision of both NC-ANE and the DF

Enhance the mission and vision of both NC-ANE and the DF in order to continue to elevate and sustain patient care outcomes in our current health care delivery system. NC-ANE honorees will be featured in the DF website, and likewise for those that the DF recognizes from other Community of Supportive Associations. The goal is to continue to bring to the awareness of everyone in the nation and globally the extraordinary work that nurses and other healthcare professionals do to enhance and maintain safe, quality patient care experiences.

What is next?

NC-ANE/DF Nominating Committee Chair Cynthia Wall, and members Shari Washington and Catherine Quay, are developing award criteria to adopt these with what the DF already has. Stay tuned for the call for nominations and our inaugural awardees. We continue to support the well-being and status of our academic nurses educators.

Strengthening academic nurse educators to elevate their status relative to equitable workload, compensation, benefits, recognition of teaching, scholarship, and service.
